Landscape from the old castle
Houffalize
A headland that has been set up on the remains of the old castle gives a wonderful landscape on the Ourthe valley. At its bottom, there is the statue of Pogge, in its rock. This outlandish character represents a middle-class person from Schaerbeek who was reputated for his wisdom and he reminds the generous help Schaerbeek gave to Houffalize after the Battle of the Bulge. Houffalize has been a martyred town: On January 6 1945, it suffered a rain of bombs. On 345 houses, 310 were completely destroyed. 194 people got killed during the 6 bombings
