The castle, of which only the ruins survive, probably dates back to the ninth century. Built on a rocky escarpment that dominates the town, it offers the visitor an exceptional view of the town and the Ourthe valley.
Recent excavations have uncovered rooms and artefacts from the fifteenth century. The ruins are floodlit in the summer months and during festivals. Don’t miss the ghost of Berthe de La Roche who walks along the battlements and then throws herself into the river below: she appears every evening in July and August (except when it’s raining). A Historical Fair is held in the castle ruins over the first weekend of August.
